Doesn't seem like so, from the looks of the "local" (doesn't use a database) secure login system I've developed many months ago. It uses $_SESSION as well.

come to find out it was the script. it was coded by kids. XD it was a open source social thing a facebook rip off that was open source.

And the moral of the story is to never trust kiddie scripts.
