I am using SMF on my site:

Here are my SMTP settings:

Set Mail type to: SMTP
Set SMTP server to: ssl://smtp.googlemail.com
Set SMTP port to: 465
Set SMTP username to: Youremailname@gmail.com
Set SMTP password to: Your email password

I tried to test it by registering an account, but the activation mail does not reach the entered email address. On checking the error logs, I found this:

http://theteamk.x10.mx/index.php?action=register2

Could not connect to SMTP host: 110 : Connection timed out

Can anyone help me? Does x10hosting support SMTP?

No. All outbound mail needs to go through x10Hosting's servers and spam filter; external SMTP is not allowed.

Are there any limits on the number of emails that can be sent every hour or every day?

If I recall correctly, the limit is 100/hr - but keep in mind that all mail is queued and scanned, so your send time might not be the system's send time, so if you're close to the limit, then timing shifts in the queue could easily put you over it. Call it 50-70 per hour to be safe. Also keep in mind that services like MailChimp (newsletters) and Mandrill (transactional mail) are available, and can be free if your requirements are modest.
