Could you please install a shoutbox right above the forums? That way it would reduce a lot of spam threads and it would help us get quick answers on small questions ^^

Shoutbox would be:

1. Create huge resources usage hog
2. too many people would not post in the forum, rather just using shoutbox.
3. Shoutbox is just a hassle :rant2:

Kreppi91, It's not a bad idea, but shoutbox would/might create more problems. There is something I could set an suggestion would be Newsbox (I don't know if that's the correct name). It's a newsbox (created for vb mods). Add an highlight of all important news, and get rid of the good-ol <maquee>!

kreppi92* and I don't see why it would be a hassle =P it would be a lot easier to know the servers' status and get answers to simple questions instead of having to post a thread for it and wait a few days for someone to actually answer. With a shout box [or an IRC client] it would be much easier to get informed People would ask before double posting the same threads over and over again

It's a fun idea, but considering how much spam and complaints get on the forums, I'm afraid that the shoutbox would just be overrun by more complaints. And if someone is extrememly pissed, they will spam the shoutbox, making it impossible for the rest of us to read why they are actually complaining.

It's a great idea, but I think that this community is a bit too big for it now. The same reason we should get a shoutbox (to reduce spam) is the same reason we shouldn't (it would be spammed more than the forum). Also, depending on the shoutbox, there might not be a record for people to check in case a question has already been answered. This would just make our staff answer the same question over and over, even moreso than they have to do now.

A news ticker/fader thing might be a good idea though.

It wouldn't work. To be completely honest.
Besides the things already posted, we have a scrolling message, announcements and server alerts and whatnot - nobody reads them anyway.

Even if admin was to set it up, with everyone posting silly messages, the important ones would be lost in the shuffle.

I see what your point is, but I think this would be great under x10hosting forum stats / user info

The shoutbox / irc chat would be just for the users to talk, the administrators wouldn't even check up on it... Also, the shoutbox would be meant to be loaded with spam so the forums would stay clean I still think its a good idea but thats not up to me to decide

PS. the scrolling message doesn't really do anything becuase it has so little information that people almost completely ignore it. Almost nobody reads the frequesnt newes which is like a 10 page essay, even if its summarized, no one takes the time to even notice its summarized so they just post new threads on the forums (Like me )

I think the shoutbox is a great idea! If there is spam in shoutbox then there won't be any spam in the forums!
