Site and URL alias

Been on the forum almost a week now. It's quite enjoyable.

I'm just wondering if the lotus server actually supports site alias so that the php can be in the root directory for example and having the configuration script point to it. Secondly what about URL aliases?

One more thing, in the poll that there was for prizes etc. Maybe it could be a good idea to add in the offers you have so people can get x amount of impressions as advertised on the corporate page, or maybe make it possible to exchange credits for it. Just a thought.

If i actually manage to get popularity for my future site, you can count on me for signing up to one of the paid hosting plans. First time I actually see such an extensive cpanel and options for a free account.

For example I use egroupware on my home server but instead of installing it to /var/www/egroupware , I have put all the files in user/share/egroupware this is just to accomodate permissions that I have set up. Then if you take your browser and just type 'http://localhost/egroupware' nothing will show because there is no such site defined in the www directory. So if you add a text file to your /etc/apache2/conf.d with what you want to name the site i.e egroupware and put

" Alias /egroupware /usr/share/egroupware followed by things like php_flag magic_quotes_gpc off etc (in other words all the functions you want to enable or disable that are not normally default) and save this file then you can actually access 'http://localhost/egroupware' without having the actual files in the www directory. This can enhance security because you don't have to put all your administrator files etc in the public directory. Effectively it would work with anything you alias your site to with the first Alias line.

Now this should work with any apache installation, but I'm not sure if you guys have set it up so users can edit their own /etc/apache2/config.d/ and have apache honour user setting before global server settings, that was all that I tried to establish. I couldn't see such a directory in my etc folder.

Secondly URL alias. When working with php you always get ...?...id=232 or something similar. You can define aliases in an xml file so that instead of showing ...?...id=232 we can create an alias named contacts for example thus when clicking on the link instead of showing 'http://mysite/...?...id=232' it would show 'http://mysite/contacts' as if it was a static page. This really help to get search engines to be less confused and making a mess crawling and it makes your url look neat. Also if you use post and get functions this would eliminate seeing all the post data as part of the url.

Actually I managed to get the URL alias working, so that part of it is ok. Don't worry about the Site Alias, it would be too much of a hassle to include it in only one account and not all. Thanks for your previous response though, it's aprreciated.
