Site Template with Menu Down the Left Side ?

I've built my site with a menu bar along the top. However, I want to add more items and so, it would possibly look better if I have the menu down the left side. Is there a template which allows this ?

As I see it, if I change Template, I lose everything that I have done on the site.

Is there any way of changing the menu location without changing the Template ?
