SMTP help

How can I check to see if SMTP is up? I tried configuring SMTP on my account but I keep getting the following error:

"Could not connect to smtp host : 13 : Permission denied

DEBUG MODE

Line : 112
File : smtp.php"


Is SMTP blocked for me?

I think SMTP is almost always down as it was getting abused by spammers so we keep it shut off most of the time.

are you using "localhost" or the server ip

Also leave the username/password blank and try again.

Dont use SMTP -- used Sendmail.

SMTP is down all the time. Thats what I think as it was abused before and I never see it online.

ya, just use the php mail function or w/e

and thePHP mail function uses SMTP; so if the server wont allow it then it will never be sent.

well when i was on the free server, it said the SMTP was always down, but when someone registered on my forum, it would still send them a message..

sendmail doesn't use smtp. that is probably how you had it set up to mail
