I said Facebook.

Having only tried Facebook and MySpace, Those are the two I can comment on.

I find the Facebook UI to be much, much cleaner and intuitive.

The overall layout of facebook is much easier to navigate.

The ads on MySpace are intrusive, where the ads on Facebook are placed so as not to take away from the main content.

The apps on Facebook promote additional social interaction.

I'm "OLD" compared to many of the users here on the x10 forums, so my views may be a bit different. Facebook seems, to me anyhow, to cater to a more mature crowd.

While the flashy themes/skins and music on MySpace seem really cool at first blush, I find them annoying, akin to popup ads. I don't want to view MySpace pages because I don't want to deal with all that clutter.

On Facebook, I have a news feed so I can keep up to date with my friends and family, I have a wall and a message center for direct interaction with specific people, I have a way to share photos and videos. I also have games and other apps available for simple entertainment. All without the annoying features of MySpace.

Here in the german speaking part of europe, http://http://www.meinvz.net/ enjoys (or enjoyed?) greater popularity than facebook. I tried it for a few days, and found it quite useless...

I have an facebook account for several weeks now because friends invited me, but it still doesn't make any sense to me. The facebook applications are mostly useless for me, the "games" are stupid (and boring) as hell. Looking at the page source frightens me (also the idea to give them the password for my gmail-account), and it's slow.

Just to think of the game "Cafe World", or whatever it's called. I'd rather hang myself than play this game one more time. Also the translation is sometimes quite bad, not to say, ridiculous.

But i have 19 facebook-friends now, at least 15 of them i've never seen in my whole life.

I will be the first to admit that I hate pretty much all social networking sites, if not for the way they are designed or some other technical aspect, then for the people who tend to make said sites the mainstay of their lives and social basis.

Does anyone else here remember when we actually kept in touch by calling our friends or by actually going over to visit with them and do other activities with them?

Does anyone else here remember when a picture of a person nearly passed out in a puddle of their own vomit was met with revulsion rather than with 'ohey, this would make a great profile pic'?

Social networking sites were intended to help people bolster their social lives, but what happened instead followed the law of unforeseen consequences. Rather than improving a person's social life, it has often simply replaced said life.

If you want to improve your social life, get off of your computer and do social activities with your friends, rather than sit at your keyboard typing 'omg, lol!' and whatever few words are left in your social vocabulary.

omg, lol!

Edit:

...sorry, just had to!

This makes sense. When I first signed up for Facebook, I started off by friending people that I was really actually friends with. But pretty soon, people that went to my school started friend requesting me, even though they weren't really friends with me. I ended up accepting incoming requests from everyone who went to my school, and now I have over 700 "friends." I still have a huge handful of requests from people that I don't know and don't go to my high school - I just let those rot in my notifications inbox.

I don't like the new "suggestions" feature - I have 17 "friends" on facebook and facebook repeatedly tells them all to "find me more friends". I object to that! I don't want a website to tell my friends that I'm a bit of a loner!

Also, facebook used to look a lot cleaner than it is now. VKontakte however, has retained facebook's "original" look (also it has the ability to tag different sized/shaped rectangles in photos so you are not lost looking for a person in a sea of faces).

I prefer to use Orkut and it is very famous in my country. It is very easy, fast and has very clean layout. But now I've no interest using social networking sites. In India social networking sites has grown as a matter of competition. I've lost many of my good friends just because of Orkut. In my city and my school it is used to flirt with Girls. Even it has grown as a great platform to bear off someone's girlfriend (mostly from one's own best friend). More Scrap means more respect. India is known for his culture and rituals but I don't know how long it will last if people keep taking interest in such activities.

I personally use mostly MySpace seeing as all my friends in my town use MySpace, and all my family from Mexico uses it as well. In any case, I dislike MySpace alot. There should be a source code police to monitor MySpace. Their personal profiles are horrible and have been known to cause crashes. Running 10 videos on one page or malfunctioning code. Although their MySpace 2.0 Profile has helped, some still stayed with 1.0 because you can fully customize it. I also use Twitter and Facebook. I dislike using Facebook but many of my "online friends" use FB. Twitter is the shiizznit though, Microblogging! W00t! :D

Facebook has the flag on those sites, definitely the most famous here in my country, pretty easy to use and their security is very top.

Plus everyday trying to get it better.
