SQL Outside Access

Ok heres the deal i want to be able to access my MySQL database from outside anyone heard of SQLyog?
So anyway I can't authenticate it gives me an error and i've tryed all the usernames that it could possible be cause i told it to be kelechi as the username so i have put in kelechi9_kelechi, kelechi and kelechi9 the password is correct so i dont see the problem

oh well thats just awsome isn't it your rules make alot of things hard for us 300 second limit on queries but at the same time no outside acsess so we can use our own programsis there any way i could make outsidde acsess without having to hack in

lol im not verry good with commas and full stops never quite got hold of them

Ah, okay

We used to allow open access to the databases, but too many people were abusing this causing major issues for the servers. So for now, until we can get a better solution that is secure we can't allow outside access in.

They did try that. You had to give your IP address to Corey ( or one of the higher up staff ) to put into the whitelist of the firewall. I don't think Corey is going to change his mind on this. Allow one person, would have to allow everyone we've denied recently that requested it.

ah i see what to do what to do what kind of exploits were there on the server i might be able to help i just need information

It wasn't exploits, it was just high usage from people hosting their databases here, their websites other places, etc.

The problem we ran into with allowing people through the firewall that requested it is we ended up with a huge rule list of IP addresses. A lot of those people would no longer be hosted with us yet their IP would still be listed. We get around 400 new accounts per day, it's a lot of manual work to add people and the list gets out of control quite quickly.

And it has been done. I've worked with x10 long enough to know what has been tried and hasn't. You stated using the firewall - Corey did that.

I'm glad you want to help. But Corey pretty much is THE boss and he's tried to be polite about saying No. How hard is it to accept that answer, honestly?

I want to apologize for my first ( or second ) post. Your first statement that stated :

Just caught my attention. Anyone that first talks about breaking in or hacking x10, makes me less interested in the rest of their comments. And I didn't shout at you and honestly could care less if you liked Corey better than me or not. I didn't sign up to x10 to have a popularity contest. But I do get snotty if someone talks about hacking x10 to get what they want.

oh ok rite yeh sorry umm *sheepishly* what about the bandwith limits wouldn't that stop the plase from getting too busy

MySQL doesn't really use much bandwidth, it's the queries that put a lot of stress on CPU usage, etc...

So technically if we left it open someone could throw their database with a 50,000 member forum and host their site somewhere else, there would be hundreds of queries a second hitting up the server.
