I need some SRV records added to my domain, mckittrick.x10.mx and member.mckittrick.x10.mx, as they are used very importantly with our family. It is supported by Microsoft, but I cannot seem to find where to add these SRV records. I have looked in Simple and Advanced DNS, and the MX Records, but have had no luck. And I cannot see my DNS records the past few days, and I have seen some changes to cPanel and stuff, are you upgrading and thats why I can't access the DNS right now?? The records I need added are:
Lync Online
TYPESERVICEPROTOCOLPORTWEIGHTPRIORITYTTLNAMETARGET
SRV_sip_tls44311001 Hourmember.mckittrick.x10.mxsipdir.online.lync.com
SRV_sipfederationtls_tcp506111001 Hourmember.mckittrick.x10.mxsipfed.online.lync.com
TYPEHOST NAMEPOINTS TO ADDRESSTTL
CNAMEsip.member.mckittrick.x10.mxsipdir.online.lync.com1 Hour
CNAMElyncdiscover.member.mckittrick.x10.mxwebdir.online.lync.com1 Hour

and

Lync Online
TYPESERVICEPROTOCOLPORTWEIGHTPRIORITYTTLNAMETARGET
SRV_sip_tls44311001 Hourmckittrick.x10.mxsipdir.online.lync.com
SRV_sipfederationtls_tcp506111001 Hourmckittrick.x10.mxsipfed.online.lync.com
TYPEHOST NAMEPOINTS TO ADDRESSTTL
CNAMEsip.mckittrick.x10.mxsipdir.online.lync.com1 Hour
CNAMElyncdiscover.mckittrick.x10.mxwebdir.online.lync.com1 Hour

I would very much appreciate it. And how come we (the community) can't add other records (SRV, NS, etc.)?

P.S. I need the x10hosting admins or staff to add these please.

The Advanced DNS Zone Editor can add CNAME records. You have to change the drop-down menu to "CNAME" where it says "type".

I believe that CPanel does not support adding SRV, NS, etc. records from the user control panel and therefore, there is not a way to do it through CPanel.

It looks like you're trying to use X10 to manage the DNS for something you're hosting elsewhere. I don't think that's a problem, but why not just use the external service to add these records and just use the CNAME? If what you're doing is specific to Microsoft, it would make more sense to let the Microsoft server handle everything instead of X10's Linux servers.

I am setting up Microsoft Lync for my domain, which goes through Microsoft. Like I said, I, for some odd reason, cannot add, view, or change ANY of my DNS Records. I have added some DNS to my domain, because I use Office 365 with my domain, and I have email setup, but, when trying to add Microsoft Lync CNAME records the next day, it says "Error
Failed to fetch zone file for mckittrick.x10.mx."
I am being very, very patient with x10hosting, because it seems like they are upgrading or updating a few things. but it's been about 5-7 days since I have last seen my DNS records. And I did find out, most cPanels' do support adding SRV, NS, etc. records. But x10hosting does not.

That is incorrect; Cpanel does not allow users to add NS or SRV records: http://docs.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/view/AllDocumentation/CpanelDocs/AdvancedDnsEditor. WHM may allow administrators to do so, but it is not the same thing as CPanel.

I believe that member.mckittrick.x10.mx must be a real subdomain for the DNS to work. I see that it is currently resolving from an A record (I'm guessing you added this manually), but it's not linked to your account. Could you try adding it as a subdomain through CPanel?

I will request an administrator look at your request for SRV records, but I think the best solution would be to have you manage this part of the DNS in another way because you will have to open a ticket for every time you want to change these records.

Ok, thank you. Could you probably tell me what might be going on with the error? I would love to be able to access my regular DNS again, just to be safe. I don't want to have to ask x10's admin's to add things like CNAME, TXT, and A records for me. Do you know or can you ask around to see what is going on, please?

I think I was able to replicate your error. Can you try resetting your DNS zone using the advanced DNS zone editor?

You will lose all changes to your DNS, but after I did this step, the error message went away for me.

Yes, I will tell the admins about that error message. It popped up for me in CPanel. In your original post, I thought you meant it popped up in Microsoft.

[Edit] I have given the administrators your information.

Ok, resetting the DNS worked, but I hated entering the DNS again, but they all work, except for the SRV records. I will check again soon. And thank you for all your support.

You're welcome!

If you do not get a response back within a day or so about the SRV records, send me a private message on the forum and I will see if I can get an update for you.

In the meanwhile, you might want to check if lync.com can do the SRV records on their end instead so you can have easier access to changing this if needed. I don't want you to feel like I'm trying to push your problem off on someone else, but it's often a bad solution to do custom things like this. What tends to happen is your changes will get erased during upgrades and you will have to redo this process again, which causes downtime for you and frustration. I'm not sure this will happen or not, but I'd like to avoid it happening if possible.

Another alternative is signing up for a free domain (e.g. through http://www.tk/) and using a service like CloudFlare that provides a thorough suite of DNS management tools in addition to a caching/acceleration service free of charge.

Sharky,
I have added my new .tk domain, as a parked domain to my x10hosting account, with it's nameservers pointed to x10's. Now, when I go to cloudflare, I did everything, except change the Name Server. I can't change the name server for my new domain, mckittrick.tk. Can you have an admin change them, or how would I go about changing them?

ns2.x10hosting.com to cody.ns.cloudflare.com
ns1.x10hosting.com to emma.ns.cloudflare.com

Those are the name servers they want me to point them to.

EDIT: Nevermind, I know how. I had to set it up with x10's name servers' so ill just change that. Thanks for telling me that!

You don't have to change anything at x10Hosting's end, apart from adding the domain name in cPanel - just set the nameservers at .tk to cody and emma and you'll be all set
