hi i dont think your apart of x10 support staff?
but to comment on what u said, if that is the case, how who would i go about to enable red5 media server on my account? Also why would it say to "If you need shell access please contact support." I came here to "contact Support" so i can gain "shell access" enabled, as it told me to do so. :)

oh btw to the staff that reads this the servers are down for me currently i can not even get a passwd request as i usally do when if I connect to ssh and/or my site and/or even the x10 cpanel. I just keep getting timeout errors...

Descalzo is indeed correct meistfx; he's been around long enough to have seen the numerous clarifications from admins, support staff, and the CEO of the company regarding SSH. It is not available for free hosting, no exceptions.

The default message you're receiving is because of SSH being blocked; the message doesn't state that we would be able to enable it, as that message is the default. We won't enable SSH for a free hosting account due to the level of damage that could be caused by a rogue user, or the amount of abuse possible.

Even if we could enable it however, the RED5 Media Server would not be able to be installed - software installation requires either a VPS or a dedicated server at a minimum, even on x10premium.

That said, there are freely available PHP/MySQL based chatroom scripts that will work, as long as you ensure they don't utilize a php document that never exits.

Edit: Should also mention that most of us in this section are volunteers as well, however that doesn't mean we're incorrect as most of us do have a way to reach admins for clarifications.

Hi thanks for the response. Im new here at x10 obviously by my post count. I take it by now that you might be of some support by your Officer alias unless its just referred to as a post count level title heh. either way im sure u could reach out to a site admin for the support I request if your not one. anyways from my first post I came here to talk to support as the error message told me "If you need shell access please contact support." Also the chatroom based script im trying to properly use is offered threw the x10hosting cpanel. I went threw the 1click autoinstaller software packages included with cpanel at the bottom and Installed the Software Dolphin that includes a avchat and red5. so im only using software x10 has provided for me in the cpanel. I only asked for shell access to properly configure it. as the wiki tell me to but as i said from the first post I got a error message saying to contact support if i need shell access so thats why I am here. trying to contact x10 support as i need shell access. If you go to software creators page you will see it states "Dolphin comes with a free Media Server software (formerly Ray Media Server - RMS), based on open-source Red 5. Media Server is required for media streaming features of some Dolphin modules. Some hosting providers already have it installed, but you may need to install one yourself if you plan to use Dolphin with media streaming." and it also states "Obtain SHELL access details for your server." if you read from the pre installed x10 host software in my control panel here is the source if needed for the quotes i made: http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/wiki/RayMediaServerInstallation

You have been officially told that the message you read is a default message by somebody who is in a position to give you official informatiion. You will NOT be getting SSH access. Stop asking.

You are free to use the modules of the software that do not require the Media Server (or other components that require SSH or any persistent presence in RAM). Not everything included in cPanel is fully supported on Free Hosting.

Im not necessarily asking for ssh access. Im just simply pointing out what the system has been relaying back to me from resources provided in hope's that x10 SUPPORT would be able to help and/or assist me to get the software that was already included with the Free Hosting working in full properly with no issues. I was not aware that everything included in cPanel is not supported on x10. I figured since it was included it would and should work? kind of strange tho why would it be included in the package if you cant fully make use of it. very very confusing was hoping it could be installed for me by tech or told that its already preinstalled perhaps as the documents I previously provided stated anyways besides all rif raft x10 seems decent so far :)

Softaculous can be used anywhere CPanel is installed; there are a lot of different things you could install that might not be ideal or useful on x10Hosting Free. There are hundreds of different programs that can be installed through Softaculous and I don't think every one has been tested on X10's servers specifically. I'm not familiar with what you're trying to do, but it may be possible to do it if you make some changes to the configuration and that could be the reason the administrators haven't disabled it. Or, maybe no one has noticed until now.

The SSH message is a little ambiguous, but I think you gained more information by asking the support staff (I'm also a community support staff member) than you could have learned in one sentence from the error message. There could have been no error message at all, or a generic "access denied" message, which you would have wasted time trying to figure out. Instead, you got the exact problem and solution.
