SSL not working

I have been having issues with my website not loading properly, as I would continuously get a 'this site can't provide a secure connection' error from google chrome. I tried creating a new SSL certificate, but now I am only getting a 'this connection is not private' error and safari won't let me onto the website. what could I be doing wrong?
