If your worrid about price and not how long the domain is then you should go for sub. If you dont really care about the cheap price you have to pay every year, want the name to be short, memorisable and professional then you should go for a domain. I would like to use a domain which is why im trying to save my credits up for one but for now im stuck with a sub domain.

TLD all the way! XD A domain name is much more formal, and you don't have to write long URLs for a price. But if you can't keep up with the yearly renewal, then you can only go for a subdomain.

I would love a domain but I dont see anyone handing a free one to me!

Actually, in my opinion, the fact that you have to use a credit card is probably the biggest deterent, over the actual cost. Coz domains are dirt cheap these days.

I mean if you could buy them at the grocery store then I believe there would be more takers!

Well it would be good if you are having a subdomain in your own domain and subdomain's is a good option for people who doesn't have money or doesn't want to buy a domain name ;)

I'd prefer a domain, it looks better. But of course, I can't afford one, so I just get a subdomain and a co.nr domain. It's easier that way when you've got zero income.

So far I've been using subdomains from freehosts, but I hope to get a domain. Domains show professionalism and dedication to what they're doing.

Domain and Sub Domain.

Domain for my site as it is more professional and if you choose good one, who knows that will fetch you good returns too.

Subdomain when I want to organize my site in different areas.

when you search for something on the internet, do you feel like something is of better quality if it is a domain without a freehosting tld tagged on the end?

Well to a starter like me who want to trial the usage of a website would be liking to take a sub domain first and obviously every one would like to have a domain due to its full control

It's better to use domain and I don't think any of you hav e a better reason why sub domain is better than a free domain. BUT FOR STARTERS I THINK SUB DOMAIN FROM A BETTER HOST LIKE X10 IS BETTER so that you don't go about wasting your money without getting nothing back for about a month. dont get stuck start with sub and it will be cool

I agree with this. When I am searching for things on the internet, and I come across something that is something along the lines of something.freewebhostnamehere.com I am less likely to think of it as a good website. Although if a website is good enough, a subdomain will still work for it, as it will get links in. It just won't be as rememberable for visitors as a domain.

Now on the other hand. If you have a domain, having sub-domains off of that is fine. That allows you to split up the website into different areas for different things. Such as store.yourwebsite.com or whatever.

So all in all, a domain is preferable for the main website, but a subdomain works for starting off if a domain name cannot be purchased.

Domain, due to the fact that you require a domain to even create a sub-domain.

I'd much rather have a domain, but I can't afford one (what budget?)

I love subdomains, but I wish I had a domain to funnel them off of xD

Personally I'd rather have the domain but why waste my money when subdomains free. The only problem with subdomains a is that they can sometimes be hard to remember. But I'm fine with my current subdomain:http://ilovecows.x10hosting.com
