I have bought joshblease.co.uk with 123-reg and I wish to create a subdomain with the cPanel provided by X10, is this possible ?

Yes.
You should be able to find out what server you are on (boru, starka, or stoli). If you ping that server to find its IP address (or cPanel might tell you if you expand the stats to the left), you use that IP in an A record for the subdomain. Then, add the subdomain via cPanel.

It worked perfectly and at least this way its free and not £30 a year for each subdomain
