So, I finally get the site up and running.. But wordpress says that a couple of my plugins were not up to date.. So I update, and BANG! No website. No admin access either. To complete my misery, the account gets suspended due to excessive resource useage. :( Sorry x10 !
So I've disabled the likely culprit, and the site's back up. Have a look, quickly, before something else breaks..

The site stayed up for only 3 hours before being suspended again, due to excessive use of resources. (again)
I've now traced the problem to Wordpress's built-in scheduler WP-Cron, which queries the scheduled task list EVERY time a page is loaded. I had a LOT of Feedwordpress tasks, and it was reading this every time a page loaded. One large bot visit, and we were suspended again.

I've disabled WP-Cron, and scheduled a PROPER Cron job to trigger FWP updates every 4 hours. Works like a dream.

If you'd like to see how I did it, I posted a full description here:
Updating FEEDWORDPRESS from a REAL cron job

Right. No response.
No RSS updates for two weeks. Site dead in the water.

I've moved the site, lock, stock & barrel to proper hosting.
Updates work just fine, and the difference in speed makes my head spin.
FTP and e-mail work. All the time. Not just when the server isn't overloaded.

Goodbye.
