To the monitoring team,

I got this message in my account panel. It said that I have been suspended for high system resource usage and that it is the third warning and hence am handicapped.

I just wanted to backup all my files and databases before I move out as I am a trouble to the server for using resources like this. All I did was select the folders I have to download and hit compress. I was not aware that backing up data itself is so resource intensive.

I did not intend to violate the TOS. I am not sure if it is a serious violation and if it is, that is because I was not aware that compressing is resource intensive.

Either way, I request you to kindly let me back up my data and suggest an alternative if compressing is an issue, so that I won't be a load for the servers.

Thanks and Regards,
Orthotope.
Edit:
I forgot to mention that this error message was shown in the account panel.

pass the information below to any support staff if you're having difficulties with your account
your suspension reason code is SPND_RUSAGE3
Thanks in advance.

We need staff to unsuspend you.
At this point the escalation is not working properly so wait here till staff come and unsuspend you.

Will sure wait.

Once the account is unsuspended, how may I know should I back up data? There are a lot of small files. ftp is blocked in out institute, the only way for me is to compress. But if compressing is going to suspend me again, is there any other option?

Thanks a ton.

I would recommend compressing them in chunks, not all at the same time. If you spread out the compressions then it will have less impact on the server and you won't be suspended.
