I'd like to know if I can have an addon domain with .tk extension or not. I had read some time back that .tk domain name were no more supported by x10hosting, is that true?

that is not true - I have used a few .tk domains here at x10hosting - during the last month or so

What exactly did you put in the nameservers?
ns1.x10hosting.com
ns2.x10hosting.com
ns3.x10hosting.com
ns4.x10hosting.com - all 4 give me 'This nameserver is invalid' messages..

Ns1 and 2 are valid. Use the IPs provided in the Wiki as well.

no need to use IPs with these [ ns1.x10hosting.com ] and [ ns2.x10hosting.com ]

I only mentioned it as it doesn't always work with the nameserver sub-domains alone.
