To change url displayed in browser without navigating away

I am using AJAX on a page, and after completion of the XMLHTTP request, i want to update the url in the browser without having the browser to navigate/refresh the page, so that users can bookmark the same url.
I've seen this on orkut picture albums, clicking on next changes image and the page url, without loading the page.

Any ideas?

You can use the javascript for that. just google for setting the browser url.
