total newb question...can't figure out the webpage address for my hosted page

Yep... been a while since I hit the 'ole web page making... flame retardant suit now on... so...

I've just got up and running with my account. I've created a webpage and ftp-ed it up to my public_html (aka www) folder. Fine, now what is the address of that page though?

This is my domain:

http://baltoboys.exofire.net

The page is named:

webcam.html

and, again, is located in the

/public_html/webcam (and the /www/webcam) directory

so I thought it would be (or something like this):

Never mind - I managed to stumble upon it in that guess - actually it IS this format below:

http://baltoboys.exofire.net/webcam/webcam.html

But it's not - I can't figure out what part of my host name goes where in the address.

Can someone give me the break out of the naming convention for websites - I'm clearly forgetting something here.

A couple of examples may help.
http://baltoboys.exofire.net/ would show files that are in your public_html directory.
http://baltoboys.exofire.net/afolder/ would show files that are in the public_html/afolder/ directory.

So public_html is the base directory, and sub-directories require a extra bit to be added to the URL.

You might want to put a index.html in the folder public_html/webcam/ (http://baltoboys.exofire.net/webcam/). Otherwsie the directory structure is open for anyone to see.
Also we require that you change the default index.html in the public_html/ folder to one of your own. It is fine if you put a redirect on it to another sub folder/file that is hosted on that account.

yes it does - but of course the first address you note actually takes you to your x10 hosting homepage, correct..?

I was forgetting that the public_html folder wouldn't be visible in the address I was making up.

So, say I'm making a site about my store and I'll call it widgetland - I'd put a folder in my public_html called "widgetland_webpages", make my site pages up, and have the home page called index.html ( or .htm) - and the site address then would be the following (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm testing my 'learning', lol):

http://baltoboys.exofire.net/widgetland_webpages/index.html

does that make sense how I've figured it (I can't believe I've forgotten all this crap!)

Yes, I saw the "replace" your index.html file, and will do. and will change the other file name accordingly to protect the directory from public access - good suggestion/tip.
