My domain is chaosndespair.org, registred with eNom.com.
I parked it using cPanel and changed my eNom settings to point to x10hosting dns
Host Record 1
Host Name: @
Address: ns1.x10hosting.com.
Record Type: CNAME (Alias)

Host Record 2
Host Name: @
Address: ns2.x10hosting.com.
Record Type: CNAME (Alias)

Now www.chaosndespair.org gives me an unknown host error and chaosndespair.org redirects to http://paperworksco.com/?! I have never heard of that site before...

My domain is chaosndespairorg.x10hosting.com which works ok

No. You have to change your NS Records, NOT CNAME Records.

If you don't have control over your NS Records, create A Record that points to the Shared IP of your hosting account. (You can get this IP from your cPanel)

I have complete control over my domain but I would like to keep my settings as they are now (managed at eNom) and set ONLY www.chaosndespair.org to point to my x10hosting page. I tried adding "@ SERVER_IP A Record" but nothing changed.

Can you please explain the whole procedure step by step in case I missed something? I need help with both cPanel config and registar settings.

Do you have an option where you can change your "Nameservers"?
Short answer: yes

Longer answer:
Edit DNS Information
(*)Default ( )Custom
Now that it's set to default, I can't add a new dn server and all my host records are managed by eNom. If I set it to custom, I can change the server but the host records are disabled(I guess if I do the switch I'll have to set them up at cPanel which I am trying to avoid).

Can't I just add a host record for the subdomain "www"?

No. You HAVE to make it Custom and make your NS Records point to
ns1.x10hosting.com
ns2.x10hosting.com

You don't need to do anything more. (If you don't want to host your email in X10 Servers, you can change MX Entries in cPanel.)

All the best.

Thanks. I currently have other subdomains in use, managed by google apps through eNom. I hope I can move these settings to x10 as well without any problems.

How stable are x10 dns servers? Were there any problems in the past? I want to be sure that my email will always be delivered (ie no dns probs)

Thanks for your time.

I think, you cannot move the settings by yourself. You have to request in Forums to create CNAME entries for using Google Apps.

I hope that X10 DNS Servers are too good.

ok I couldn't make it work by setting the x10hosting dns but I added an eNom host record "www chaosndespairorg.x10hosting.com CNAME(Alias)" and it seems to be what I was looking for.

I want to thank all of you guys for your replies!

I think I'm having the same issue so I thought I'd just post here to save Corey and the others trouble.

I got my domain name but I don't know how to assign it to work with http://xenonovel.x10hosting.com I also don't have a clue what they were talking about in the above posts as I only know minimal about this stuff.

I can try to help you. Where did you get your domain from? Do you already use other subdomains like I do? Subdomains are www.youraddress.com, mail.youraddress.com, forum.youraddress.com etc.

Well I had just won it as one of the weekly prizes and no I don't understand any of that. When my boyfriend had his own webspace he let me use subdomains like www.myurl.hisurl.com.

First of all I would like to bring to your attention that the link in your signature leads to a page saying that there is no such site registered with x10hosting. Have you complete your registration?

Now about the weekly prize, I am new here and I can't really help you. Did you get any email, message etc about your prize? If you did there should be info about who is you registar.

I think it should be already set to use x10hosting domain servers so you might just have to post on the forum requesting from an admin to change your primary domain. Check this thread.

Well see I got the main domain changed to http://xenonovel.com so that's expected. However the site won't come up and I can't get into the new cpanel link provided.

Ryoko -- There was an error purchasing the domain I didn't see when I filled the info out. I fixed the error and the purchase just went through.
