Unable to send mails with phplist using SMT Gmail

I'm trying to enable phplist with gmail, unfortunately after reading so many forums an applying all the changes to the php config files, I still can't get this working.

Basically there are two errors :
1. Error sending message to xx
2. Mailer Error : SMTP Error: Could not connecto to SMTP Host.

I'm wondering if perhaps this is not allowed in the x10 free accounts, maybe the ports 25, 465 and 587 are closed or I have to erase phplist installation and start over again.

Really need guidance on this & I'd appreciate if somebody could help with this.

We do not allow the use of external SMTP services on free hosting, as this bypasses our email scanners and thus increases the likelihood of x10Hosting's domain/IPs getting blocked for sending spam, which affects tens of thousands of legitimate users.
