Uploading sites

Hi,

I'm a real newbie, but i really want to learn.
So say I've used a simple program like Dreamweaver or Fireworks to "create" a webpage. Just a random one to test that I'm doing the right thing. Where exactly do I upload those HTML Documents to in order for the site to work?
I've tried just uploading all the pages (about 3 for testing purposes) but it doesn't seem to work. As I know this is probably something very simple to you guys, I've really just started.
Really could use some pointers! I appreciate everything!

All publicly accessible content needs to be uploaded to either the "public_html", or "www" directory.

So meaning i just upload those .html's there? Doesn't seem to be working tough... i get this Index page..

Am I seeing this way to simple?

That's all there is too it.

To remove the indexed files page, and to add a homepage, you'll need to rename one of your files to "index.html".
