Hi,
I am an IT guy, but I am badly stuck and I need urgent help to figure something out.
I currently have a website and email hosted on Google Sites (www.gaughran.com)

The domain is registered with www.register365.com

I would like to continue my email to be hosted with Google sites. But, I would like to transfer my domain host to X10 Hosting. I have a new site set up here. The URL is http://gaughran.x10.mx/. However, I would like to continue to use the existing domain name (www.gaughran.com)

My domain host have advised that I edit the "A" and "CNAME records. However, they have asked me to find out the IP address that I need to point my "A" record & my "www" record to. Can you provide this information to allow me to edit my DNS correctly??

Is there anything else I need to do to make sure the transfer of the host takes place correctly.

I found the following help, but I am unsure if it applies to my situation:
http://x10hosting.com/wiki/How_to_Use_Your_Own_Domain

What I have done so far is...
1. with my domain registrar, I have changed the 'A' record to 69.175.104.34
2. with my domain registrar, I have changed the 'CNAME' record to gaughran.com

In my X 10 account, I have done the following:
1. I have transferred the HTML files to my X10 account (http://gaughran.x10.mx)
2. I have unchecked the option to use an x10hosting subdomain.
3. I have changed the main domain to "gaughran.com"

Have I done anything incorrectly? As soon as I made the DNS changes with the domain registrar, when I browse to www.gaughran.com...It gets redirected to http://hosting.x10hosting.com/

Can someone urgently please help?

Hello,

Ideally, you'd set the nameservers to ours, then use our DNS to point the MX back at Google. What you're doing may cause issues.
Nameservers: ns1.x10hosting.com and ns2.x10hosting.com

Thanks.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
My domain registrar has requested that I do this by changing the "A" and "CNAME" DNS records. Can you advise what I need to change these records to as an alternative? If this doesn't work I will ask them if they can change the nameservers.

Also, what do I need to change in my X10Hosting settings? I have now broken my website! It is redirecting to http://hosting.x10hosting.com/ !!!!!

All help is greatly appreciated.

Hello,

The IP of your server is 69.175.104.34 (you should change the A record to this).
Your site is loading the default web page for me, which is a relatively good sign. Clear your browser cache, flush your DNS, cycle your browser, then try again.
You shouldn't need to do any messing with CNAMEs at this stage, but you can point the www to your domain.

Hi, yes, I already have change the "A" record to 69.175.104.34 and the "CNAME" www record to gaughran.com

The bit I cannot figure out is how to get the HTML content in public_html being displayed. I have already set up the website on X10. It is here: gaughran.x10.mx

How do I link this to www.gaughran.com (THIS IS THE MAIN DOMAIN THAT I NEED TO GET TRANSFERRED AND WORKING)

I realise that. I'm not completely stupid, so there is no need to be rude.

So far as I can tell, that domain is set up correctly for what you are going for, but I really think you need to change the nameservers.

Apologies. The capitals were put to clarify my question, thats all. I wasnt trying to be rude.
My registrar are advising to change the A & CNAME records.

What type of free account needs to be activated on X10. I see there is three choices
1. Main Domain
2. Add on
3. Parked Account

I currently have it set to "Main Domain". It was originally pointing to gaughran.x10.mx, then I changed this to gaughran.com. Then I changed it back to gaughran.x10.mx. However, I can no longer browse to all the content I put on gaughran.x10.mx.

Can you advise the correct set up on X10? I suspect that this is nearly working. I just need to get this last bit configured correct (I think).

Thanks

Right, I see. I'm sure when I checked your account before the main domain was still the .com. It can take a little while to update.
Try parking it in cPanel, but it may not work without the correct nameservers set at your end. If that doesn't work then add it as your main domain. That was likely correct in the first place. :)

Hi.
OK, so to clarify, should I change the "main domain" back to "gaughran.com".
It was originally set to "gaughran.x10.mx"

However, I can no longer browse to all the content I put on gaughran.x10.mx. Will this cause a problem? For some reason, it redirects to here: http://hosting.x10hosting.com/

How does X10 link gaughran.com to gaughran.x10.mx? Is it this 'main domain' setting I am referring to?

I guess if gaughran.x10.mx is not showing correctly, it will cause me a problem? Any idea how to restore this?

Do you need both domains to be working? The .com will replaces the .x10.mx as your main domain. Any files on the account will then be only shown on the .com. You can forget about our subdomain.
The hosting.x10........ page is sometimes there as the system can take a little while to completely process the changes. Usually a browser cache/flush DNS gets rid of it.
