Hi,

I came upon the following link and was surprised by the url format (the part in red) -
http://www.calgaryinfocenter.com/merchant2.php/list2/232/Banff+Lodging+Company

I would have expected a URL to point to a specific page like http://www.calgaryinfocenter.com/merchant2.php

Or, for some parameters to be passed to a URL (appended to a URL with a ?) as -
http://www.calgaryinfocenter.com/merchant2.php?name=gmdata

Can someone give me any pointers on when a URL is used with an appendix like in red above and how it is processed?

Thanks a lot.

apache rewrite, yes. you can also do something like /products/catagory/productname/page instead of /products.php?cat=catagory&id=productname&page=page

makes it a lot cleaner. look at the url for this forum, you'll see /programming-help/65791-url-format-its-meaning.html but in reality it's probably /index.php and some query string.
