Xampp isn't bad for just starting out and getting to know things and how to run them. That's how I started. x10 got me right into servers after that; and then I had a chance to grab one for free. I fixed it up a bit and now it runs with the above specs (in my last post) great.

All I have is a router and a cable connection and speeds are very nice and it's secure as well. There is a hardware firewall on the router and a software firewall on the server running all the time.

Make a server out of it.

It is powerful enough for a dedicated web server, maybe even a game server.

Yes thats good idea. Make a dedicated server for web, games and other purposes.

if you dont need parts from it (you will, trust me) then you could sell it or make it into the beginning of a LAN of servers like i do

You could use it to test out different operating systems, to check out 'experimental' software, to act as a server for sites, as a file store, as a media center
