Useful Windows shortcuts


Windows: Display the Start menu
Windows key + R = Displays RUN command
Windows key + D: Minimize or restore all windows
Windows key + E: Display Windows Explorer
Windows key + F: Display Search for files
Windows key + Ctrl + F: Display Search for computer
Windows key + F1: Display Help and Support Center
Windows + PAUSE/BREAK: Display System Properties dialog box
Windows + SHIFT + M: Undo minimize all windows
Windows + U: Open Utility Manager
Windows key + L = Lock your Windows XP computer.
Windows key + M = Minimizes all open windows.
Windows key + **** + M = Restores all previously open windows
Windows key + TAB = Browse through the buttons on the Task Bar



ALT + Tab = Switch between windows
ALT then Space then X = Maximize window
ALT then Space then N = Minimize the window
ALT then Space then C = Closes the window
ALT then Space then M = (Can only be used if the window is restored) Moves the window (with arrow keys)
ALT then Space then S = (Can only be used if the window is restored) Resize the window (with arrow keys)
ALT + F4 = Close current window
ALT + ENTER = View properties for the selected item
ALT + ESC = Switch between running applications

CTRL + Shift + Esc = Task Manager
CTRL + A = Select all Text
CTRL + X = Cut
CTRL + Z = Undo
CTRL + V = Paste
CTRL + C = Copy
CTRL + INSERT = Copy
CTRL + O = Open an item
CTRL + TAB = Move forward through the tabs
CTRL + SHIFT + TAB = Move backward through the tabs
CTRL + Left arrow = Move one word to the left
CTRL + Right arrow = Move one word to the right

TAB = Move forward through options
SHIFT + TAB = Move backward through options

SHIFT + INSERT = Paste
SHIFT + DELETE = Deletes the selected file permanently without placing it in Recycle Bin


F2 KEY = Renames the selected file
F3 KEY = Search for a file
F5 KEY = Refresh the active window

CONTROL + END = takes you to the end of the page.

Type the following commands in your Run Box (Windows Key + R)

devmgmt.msc = Device Manager
msinfo32 = System Information
cleanmgr = Disk Cleanup
ntbackup = Backup or Restore Wizard (Windows Backup Utility)
mmc = Microsoft Management Console
notepad = Notepad
wordpad = WordPad
calc = Calculator
msmsgs = Windows Messenger
mspaint = Microsoft Paint
wmplayer = Windows Media Player
rstrui = System Restore
control = Opens the Control Panel
control printers = Opens the Printers Dialog
