Hi guys,

For some reason one of the sites I have the responsibility of maintaining which is hosted on the server; 'Level' doesn't appear to be functioning nearly as consistently as other sites I have using X10Hosting (The others being mainly on Absolut) and the initial access to the site is very slow. We loaded up the site here on a 200Mb leased line today and it took 24 seconds to initially resolve the address before the site actually started appearing. I have the same problem with a different provider at home on a 24Mb connection.

The site in question is located here: http://bra-run.co.uk

The domain is parked with X10 and the site is Joomla based, like the other sites which load perfectly on Absolut (An example of another I manage with X10 on Absolut is: http://modkin.x10.mx).

I've also noticed that the PHPMyAdmin software hangs regularly and takes a few minutes to catch up.

Does anyone else on the free service have a problem like this on Level?

Not sure if it would make much difference but I haven't been able to optimize the tables on PHPMyAdmin due to the snails pace it is loading.

I realise this is a free service however the performance on level does not nearly come close to that on Absolut which is also free.

Anyone?

Edit: I have done a test with Pingdom and their performance appears to be very slow as-well: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/BsEgjVaUf/bra-run.co.uk

Cheers,
Chris

I have also noticed very slow / inconsistent service.

However, I don't know what server I am on. How do I discover this?

Thank you.

EDIT:
Never, mind. I figured it out.

I'm also on 'Level'.

EDIT:
I have the exact same problems and since I upgraded to adfree-infinity-prime for 3 months to test it out, I opened a support ticket on this. One time they said they discovered and fixed an issue but if it was fixed it didn't last long at all.

Your description seems to explain the issues quite well. I also find that optimizing the tables on PHPMyAdmin takes a very very long time.

My testing using WebPageTest.org discovered that a plain html page loads very quickly but a MediaWiki page loads extremely slowly. This suggests to me a MySQL, php, or CPU problem. But I'm no expert.

It also varies, with some times it loads fine (not lightening fast but good enough), and other times loads very very slowly.

I dislike complaining, since x10 is very kind to offer me a site at all. But I'm hoping my ticket and this thread will help them fix an underlying problem with the server.

We're aware of the intermediate loading time issues on level, but they have been thus far difficult to narrow down to a cause.

Thanks for your replies.

Skizzerz I'm not sure if it helps but it appears as if no data is being loaded at all in the long time it takes for the website to load until just before it finishes loading as you can see from my Pingdom Tools. This could maybe be an Apache, PHP or MySQL delay I would have though.

Would there be any chance of getting transferred to Absolut to avoid this issue any further please? If so, what are the steps to apply for doing this?

Thanks,
Chris

Unfortunately, the problem is getting worse with:

500 Internal Server Error

Request Timeout

This request takes too long to process, it is timed out by the server. If it should not be timed out, please contact administrator of this web site to increase 'Connection Timeout'.

happening now.

And now it's working fine. Either something was fixed or it is something that comes and goes.
