I was eagerly spreading the news that my site was up and running when suddenly the next time I checked it was that it was all white with big black bold letters saying that it cannot connect to the server!

I checked the database and noticed everything's in tact, even the user is connected to the database. Later I figured that the username privileges for the database was altered.

How could that have happened? Was it mysql injection, since I am using WordPress without Akismet enabled (at the time)? Or was there some admin tinkering through my database and accidentally altered settings?

My website is http://ripplingrealm.x10.mx

It appears this was a temporary problem of some kind.
I am able to access your website with no problems at this time.

Doesn't sound like a hack to me...your website worked fine at time of writing.
Possibly got corrupted in the move

They moved the mySQL server last night. Often that causes changes in user permissions. Dropping the user and then adding him back with full permissions usually will fix the problem.
The move also messes up config files that worked with host set to 'servername.x10hosting.com' rather than 'localhost' and there are a bunch of posts in Free Hosting.

The website is accessible because I fixed the database user privileges. If I didn't the site would still have been down. What I'm wondering is, how could that have happened? How can somebody get into my database server account details and alter the database user privileges?

It happened during the mySQL server move. A lot of people had the same problem. Not just you.

And it is not "your" server. It is shared with a ton of other users.

@decalzo: I see, my bad. At least I understand a bit better about the scale of things and how it all comes together. So it's not necessarily a hack attempt, but a side-effect of the server transfer. Case closed then. Thanks.

Oh and by the way I meant 'my server account details' not 'my server'. Still, thanks again.
