I have used almost all that is being discussed here.
SmartFTP :- good one with good GUI and easy userinterface
Fillezilla :- equally good
CuteFtp :- good
Winscp :- for Tfp support etc.
built in ftp of internet explorer.
The one which is built in with internet explorer is easy to use but have security problems.
What is the benefit of using an separate FTP program instead of using one built in to a browser or Dreamweaver CS3? I use the FTP program built into Dreamweaver.

If you just use the one with the browser, the password is not encrypted and sent. So risk is high.
I didnt use the ftp program available with dreamweaver, so i can not comment much on it. But if you use a separate FTP program then you have various options built into it.
I use cuteftp not really tired any the others but keep seeing people saying that filezilla is good so I might use that but only problem is that you cant upload to two servers at once with that or so im told
Nothings wrong with Linux users, they just stand out more :]
I use FileZilla when I don't have Dreamweaver CS3 on hand, but trust me Dreamweaver has a hella nice GUI for it's FTP, and it's more secure then using the built in, cuteftp or filezilla. It's what you get for a 200$+ software.
