whats so good about "Points"

Sorry, new to this forum, but can anyone tell me the purpose or possible usefulness of points? I saw people donating and stuff on this forum...really wondered what one could do with...more points? Thanks.

Well there's a Shop (http://www.x10hosting.com/ushop.php) where you can buy things. For Example 1500 points for a domain, 2800 for advanced ad free for 6 months and 3500 for corporate. Tha's why people exchange points for services, most of the times trying to get a free domain for their sites.
