Ooooh. Nice. Is that what you actually have right now? If so, very impressive. I'll post my current build here, and then edit when I make my dream build on newegg.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current Laptop Build
--------------------
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2
System Model: Aspire 3000
Processor: Mobile AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3100+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.8GHz
Memory: 894MB RAM
Card name: SiS M760GX
Display Memory: 128.0 MB

60 GB Hard Drive
DVD/CD±RW 4x Drive
--------------------
Current Desktop Build
--------------------
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2
System Manufacturer: Compaq Presario 061
System Model: ER919AA-ABA SR1820NX NA620
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3400+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GHz
Memory: 894MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce 6150 LE
Display Memory: 512.0 MB
Current Mode: 1440 x 900 (32 bit) (60Hz)

160 GB Hard Drive
DVD/CD±RW ?x Drive w/ Lightscribe
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most of that was from dxdiag, except the last two things. Sorry that is isn't as professional as newegg, but it is just the basics of my system.

[EDIT]
My desktop rig is what I use for gaming, but I can get some decent games on my laptop(WoW, Rappelz, Diablo 2, etc.). It does suck though b/c the sound card on my laptop is blown(litterally, the hardware is fried), so no sound =(

Oh, and for anyone who guessed it, both systems have 1 GB of RAM installed, but I have the shared video memory(onboard memory) turned up to 128 MB, so that is why it is an odd number like so(but gives me 512 of graphics memory on my desktop =)

8GB is possible. Maybe only on Vista, but I know it is possible(4 slot MB with 4 2GB DDR2 sticks). I've actually seen some computers advertised with 8GB RAM(factory default). They were quad-core PCs though(running Vista).

Yea, after some short research, XP Professional(and therefore home and any previous version of Windows) can only support up to 4 GB of RAM.

However(and this is interesting), Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition supports up to 32 GB of RAM and even more amazingly Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition supports up to 64 GB of RAM.

That is done through some fancy technique that creates small paging files and such. I don't know too much about it, but it does all make sense. If you are running a server, you need a lot of memory. Thus a server OS will support higher RAM capacities.

But yea, 8 GB is just on Vista really. You'd need DDR2 RAM as well(but I think all Vista PCs come with that), and of course 4 memory slots on your motherboard, but if you get those lucky features, you can get 8GB of RAM. Although it seems like a quad-core would be best for that much memory. A single core would not dare handle that much and a dual-core might struggle.

I've almost reached mine =)
PC:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6420
1GB RAM 667mhz(Ideal 4 GB in dual channel 800mhz).
Motherboard: Intel DG33BU (ya, it has the worst on board memory card ever=P)
Nvidia GForce 7100 GS (Ideal something along the lines of 8800 overclocked version =P)
The rest are detials, any SATA disk works for me =P but one with perpendicular writing would just rock ~_^

My dream computer setup would be one that never needed to upgraded!

And about RAM limits, that depends on how big the word size of your processor is.

Most computers are only 32Bit, and hence limited to 4GB worth of memory addresses.

64bit machines are capable of vastly more. 16 Exabtyes to be precise. (thats a GB x 1024 x 1024 x 1024 (over 4billion times more!))

But since no ram technology exists that can get anywere near close to that as yet, most 64Bit OSs have a cap in the tens of GBs.

I think you'll find you could build the same computer for about $3000 less than it costs from Alienware. However their warranty and support are good, and Ageia PhysX cards are hard to come by (People around here call them collectables, not physics processing units). And 10k RPM drives are right now not practical, the performance boost is negligible from a 7200RPM drive and 7200s come in much larger sizes.
However if you choose to get it anyway, I'm just offering my own opinion here and you've got the right to go and buy that Alienware, especially so if you're not confident with building it yourself. :)

My new computer:

Processor: Intel Quad Core 2.4GHz - Probably going to overclock it
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R
RAM: Corsair 2Gb XMS-2 RAM Kit (x2, 4Gb RAM total)
GPU: eVGA 8800GT 512mb
PSU: Corsair 620HX 620w PSU
Case: Antec Sonata III
HDDs: 2x Seagate Barracuda 500Gb 7200RPM S/ATA-II
Disc Drive: LG GSA-H55NBBK Internal DVD Writer - P/ATA
Monitor: AOC 193FW+: 19" Widescreen LCD (5ms@1440x900)

And a nice new Logitech G5 Mouse to go with my old Logitech G15 Keyboard. I already have a full 7.1 speaker set here too :D
But it's all ordered. It'll be here (or to my uncle's place) in a week, since most of it had to be ordered in and we asked for single postage. Then I head up there, build it, bring it home. Installing Vista Ultimate on it (I'm not getting a DX10 card to play games in DX9) and considering dual-booting a Linux distro.

How much is the one you're getting? You can make one for about 2000-2500 less than from AW.. Just go to Newegg and get the same parts, and compare the price. Its pretty easy, and truthfully, Its damn fun and it feels better when your running the computer for the first time.. you know, you building it and all =P
