I have XP Pro on a Compaq and it's doing pretty good which surpises me. But then again, I just got an upgrade. I really want to try Mandrake but I don't want to mess up my PC trying to do it.

I'm pretty luck to be running XP Pro because my friend bought it for really cheap at a college in Texas that had a deal with the company to sell it cheap for college students.

Linux...I suggest you to get books . like "Fedora Core 2 for Dummies or even 3"..There are many...Books is a great way to start. Linux , well there is no start and no end....Mostly linux deals with Linux. But thanx to X-Window manager (for those who do not know what is it , its explorer.exe or Aqua) like GNOME and KDE. There is no need to user Terminal to do basic tasks , like cd burning and ftping or irc...

For starters , get Knoppix. It runs on the CD. So it won't touch your HDD

I was only 6, lol. I just remember the computer looking like this one day and it looking really different the next.

If I had money, the very first thing I'd do is buy a book on Linux 'cause I don't trust myself to do it. How much is it anyways?

I got Windows XP Pro Media Center Edition. Normally it would ONLY come installed on PCs that can support it. But upgrading and all and way beyond requirements, I decided I would get it. The picture from my satellite looks x100 better then on the plasma TV. (Note: You need a turner card to hook up a cable/satellite cord). But if you ask me I got Windows XP Pro Media Center Edition pretty cheap, you could probably even say I got it for free. But you guys don't need to know where.

Its Ubuntu It runs quite nicely, But I've chose to standardise on Fedora Core 3 for the time being.

[OFFTOPIC]
Mark Shuttleworth, who is responsible for Ubuntu (Canonical). Has a similar love for open source to me but he has more money. :ermm: Anyway he's spreading open source accross africa which is cool
