"Texas - It's like a whole other country"
That is a slogan commonly used by the Texas tourist industry. Texas, being a very large State, has a very wide variety of cultures and geography. At one point in history Texas was an independent nation, (Republic Of Texas), and was admitted to the United States by treaty - not annexation - giving Texas the unique right to separate from the United States if they ever wish to do so. Not very likely to happen, but possible because of how we joined the U.S..
And most Texans, particularly native Texans, are very proud of their State and the State's heritage.
And there is your Texas History 101 class for today.

BTW, @sclewin7, l like your avatar. Canadian Linux?

Thanks again. Yea, he is the Canadian Tux. I made him by taking a regular Tux (Linux Mascot) and adding a red maple leaf.

I have also found that saying Texas is not the largest state in the Union irks some of them. Also, "Sir" and "Ma'am" is a must (at least in East TX) - which I found hard to adjust to coming from Chicago.

Are you suggesting that it is NOT the largest State in the Union?..........
My Texas schooling taught me that it WAS.........

Also, "Sir" and "Ma'am" is a must
In smaller towns and communities such as the one I live in most folks are very friendly and polite with the sir's, ma'am's, howdy's, and opening doors for ladies. In larger cities you find a very high percentage of rude jerks - just like any other large city in the U.S. or the world as a whole.
