Where is PHP.ini?

I want to send emails with my free hosting plan, but I'm using PHP and its not working. My friend copied my code to his server and it worked. I was looking around and they suggested editing php.ini . I looked in my filemanager in cpanel but cannot find it. Does anyone know where it is/how to set up PHP email(using a php page like mail.php that sends information from a form)

sorry, free users cannpt edit php.ini, you would need a VPS if you want to edit it.

You should be able to use the mail() function

Are you sure you're using the mail() function correctly? You can find the documentation for that function here: http://us3.php.net/manual/en/function.mail.php

Try using a third-party tool such as phpMailer to check if it is really a problem with the mail function/server or your code.
