Which Animation file is best for Internet?

I think swf file is best for Internet.

GIFs are good for logos, it can also be used for small animations and film clips. But the resolution and quality is low.

SWFs have good quality, and is mostly used for graphics animation. A major benefit of is that SWF graphics are smaller than GIF or JPEG

So I would say that SWF are better than GIFs I myself haven't used GIF file much, but I have used it to create small animated pictures for my logos :lol

I would go for GIF's as they occupy very less space when compared to SWF's and they are universal whereas for flash you need to have plugins installed for the flash file to be visible.

Sony PlayStation Portable consoles can play limited SWF files in its web browser, with firmware version 2.71 and up. Nintendo's Wii console can run SWF files through its Opera browser.

As stated above almost 99% users have the SWF plugin installed so we don't need to worry about it.

Well 100% users can view gif. ;P

I go with gif for its simplicity. Not ideal for full page graphix though. Havn't really used flash since school, started playing around with it and lost intrest.

I don't really like flash based sites much, its really hard for the search engines to index them so in general you don't get good ratings.

For GIF's, you could always add an alt tag though. Either way, I use flash when I need something interactive done, and gif's whenever I can.

For web sites are SWF, but for avatars, or banners are .gif, but i prefer SWF..

GIF and SWF are TOTALLY different things! You can't make a whole site with menus and interactive games based on GIF. SWF/Flash is the best SITEBUILDING animation type. GIF is good for pictures and ONLY pictures.

It all depends on the intention.
For decoration or visual appeal uses or maybe even diagrams gif is the best because it loads quickly and needs no plugins.
But for interactivity swfs are best. (applets are so last century! )
