I think most struggle to make an original site with wordpress. Mainly because an amount of knowledge to skin it.

So without the knowledge a wordpress site looks like every other wordpress site.

We've used joomla quite extensively.

I think joomla and then wordpress for customization.Not drupal. drupal has drawbacks of execution time before it loads a page(not from cache).

I like Wordpress. It is simple to use, has hundreds of thousands of plugins, and there are many themes for it. If you can find a good theme that you like, and have some VERY basic HTML/CSS knowledge, you can make your WP installation look custom.
