Yeah for some advance webmasters they're don't really use Dreamweaver to create a website. A simple text editor will do fine for em. I use Dreamweaver because it's easy to use for beginners like me, there's lots of pre-installed reference codes and the code coloring is very handy.

I used to use dreamweaver, but I am trying really really hard to stick to using portal systems to where I don't touch a single line of code....

I still prefer Dreamweaver. It's a really nice WYSIWYG editor

I dont use WYSIWYG editors.
Its fedora's default gedit [which supports syntax highlighting] and firefox for me.

Considering that my coding abilities equal that of most Geocitie's users, I use KompoZer. I used to use Nvu, what KompoZer is based on, but there were too many glitches. Of course, the problem with KZ. is that the webpages come out with about the same quality as the effort... :/

I use Dreamweaver and Fireworks (Nice integration between them), I rarely use Notepad, although I could if I really wanted to.

And I never use the WYSIWYG features of Dreamweaver due to the horrible code it can create in layouts etc.

And it's cost doesn't really help. $300 for a website is more then buying a website commision. It's like a little slap in the face from Adobe; the people who buy it can learn how to use it. I don't have enough patience to use it.

hao!

I notepad++ and firefox...

I also used photoshop some few months ago until I lost patience in designing pages on my own. I'm now more on porting free templates to wordpress, and still learning to port templates to Joomla (I don't know how to make overrides without changing the core) and PHPBB3 (Just beginning).

Most of the time I'll use Dreamweaver it's ok at best, I can do it by hand but I usually don't have the time. So a hastily constructed site is usually the result, oh well. Only the gurus will know, the rest of the world wont, that's enough satisfaction for me =)

I have used a variety of things: Notepad, CuteHTML, AceHTML, etc. Notepad was what I started with, and it's still a favorite. It's nice and plain and let's me do what I want to do without dealing with other people's ideas about what makes building easier.

I consider myself somewhat of a higher-end intermediate PHP developer, and I love Dreamweaver for its code hints that really help lighten the load on the developer. I don't need to check the PHP manual for every obscure function, Dreamweaver will frequently show me the parameters for that function.

gedit rules!
when on windows though, notepad, as I can't be bothered to install a better text editor. Only you have to be careful about certain things with notepad (like encoding, and it always wanting to save as .txt)

i have not tried dreamweaver, using my notepad most of the time. Perhaps, I should give dreamweaver a try, after seeing so much post of its ease of use.

Dreamweaver is really jam packed with tools which are really good but need knowledge to use. I personally used Microsoft Frontpage as i find it much easier for me to use. But Dreamweaver has allot more features to make your website look much nicer but as i said it requires knowledge.

I have tried some of these editors such as Microshafts Expression Blend and Dreamweaver but I normally either use a text editor or just edit the CSS from other people Wordpress templates to get the desired effect. I use photoshop though cuz its a webdesigner must!

Notepad (or any basic text editor).

That's all you really need, for your environment, anyway. Gimp or Photoshop can help if you like lots of images on your site. I don't like Flash... though it can be fun when you're bored (Our school has it on all the computers).
