I use ThemeBot for my templates. It has a good range of themes for CMSs like Joomla and Wordpress.

I'm not a big fan of cookie-cutter templates. But freewebtemplates.com has some nice visual templates.

I think making your own site leads to individuality, even if it's not the most graphically appealing. The one place where you may need a template though, depending on your level of expertise, is when you want to provide something intricate, like a forum. For sites like these see phpBulletin.

It all depends on what kind of template you want. If you want gaming templates, http://clantemplates.com has great ones otherwise I'd choose a different site.
