Which software is best to Create a Java File?

ok...what is a java program? those things that you can download off the internet to do somthing? can anyone make a tutorial on java? i dont have the smallest idea on java...im VERY interested though...once you make a tutorial can you pm me the link? or pm about a good tutorial? THANKS

I found with java just using notepad was fine except for the
tediousness of setting up the javaswing visual side.
I tried both eclipse and netbeans for that and both were very,very
slugish.I guess I need more Ram.
Eclipse was also good for creating the jar file,something that would never work in notepad.It's crazy.
