Hi,

Im just wondeiring why my site is down just as much as it is up. I know its free and all so I don't care that much, but isn't it a bit ridiculous for it being down so often. I don't see any reason for it. That amount of maintence shouldn't be required to keep the server running smoothly so im assuming it has major problems and keeping it running is a chore.

I don't mean this in a bad way, but it doesen't make x10 look very good as reliable hosting solution weither you pay or not. I've paid pennies for some hosting companys and it wasn't this bad, I've paid alot for good hosting and it was only decent, but this is just dreadful. Everytime I goto my site over the course of the last 3 weeks or so. Its down 80% of the time I decide to update something or to check something. and I hardly even view it so I don't know about the rest of the time! Im not exaggerating either. I wish I was :(

any information on why this continues to happen would I think be appreicated by many.

Ciao,
Shawn

As of now, the administrators are doing some Global Updates and Maintenance on the servers. As soon as all updates and all maintenance are finished, the server will be up and maybe there will be even less downtime. i hope.

I'm sorry to say, but I can't take any more of this bad service. Since I've signed up (only 2 months ago) there has been slow performance as well as at least 3 down times. Granted this is a free service, but if you want to push your paid services, this is not the way to go. Until there is some major improvement, you've lost my business - I've moved to a paid service elsewhere.

Btw, there also should've been better notifications upon moving of services (i.e. email days before) so users could back up their data beforehand.

hey Corey always keeps us updated on this, so your thing about keeping users informed is wrong.
I've been a part of this site for long and its only for some time we are facing problems.

I kinda have to agree with what the first poster is saying its getting kinda overbearing, i know that corey and they are doing their best which is fantastic but, i'm sure all my members from my forum are angry and has left. I want to buy paid hosting but i can right now because i need a job letter from my work which i will get next month to get my visa. So its not like i want to stick on free hosting. But to me when we was on on server from the beginning things where alot better than this, But i will still stay and see whats up cheers

I don't see any reason for it.

Try taking a deep breath and reading over the last few Server Alerts and Announcements. It may give "reason" why there has been problems and downtime.

any information on why this continues to happen would I think be appreicated by many.

Information HAS been provided. Just takes a moment to read it all.

Until there is some major improvement, you've lost my business - I've moved to a paid service elsewhere.

So you are aware of the reasons for the downtime, the bugs in the software, the conflicts, etc. Try being here over a year when half of what is here now, wasn't here.

Btw, there also should've been better notifications upon moving of services (i.e. email days before) so users could back up their data beforehand.

You've been here 3 months, you should be well aware that e-mails of that nature are not send out. 85% of the people would probably not have gotten the e-mails ( because e-mails weren't listed in the hosting account ) 5% would of gotten it, but ignored it or it would of been lost in SPAM / Junk folders and the rest would of gotten it, but it wouldn't of pertained to them. ( Or x10 would of gotten the e-mails back for various reasons )

hey Corey always keeps us updated on this, so your thing about keeping users informed is wrong.

Would you prefer he spend his time in the forums, answer the 100's of repeated questions, over and over - so each person can personally get told the same message, or would you like it for him to spend his free time, own money and whatnot to try and solve whatever is going on and make this a great service again? ... Some outages he may not be aware or, or is aware of it and decides to try and fix it instead of running to the forum first, answering the 100's of "MySQL is down, this server is down, that server is down. HEP ME PLZ!" ...
He has done a great job ( as well as Bryon, and the rest of the Admin staff ) on keeping us updated when they can.

If you aren't happy with the service here, we understand. But threatening to leave if things aren't improved to your standards, really isn't going to make Corey ( or any of us ) work harder. You can't please everyone all of the time.

I joined 1 week ago and from the first day I also got lots up and down and I was kinda worried but the people here at the forum told me to be patient, I kept everyday reading at the server alerts to see what was going on and since yesterday after following instructions about the change of mysql everything is working excellent and I feel like the speed has improved.

Thanks team of 10x.

I have only been here for 4 months and can vouch that there has been allot more uptime than down.
It just happens that there has been allot of hardware/software updating in the past month. If you care about the long run, then this is a bonus.

Granted this is a free service, but if you want to push your paid services, this is not the way to go. Until there is some major improvement, you've lost my business - I've moved to a paid service elsewhere.
So what did the host that you moved to do to push their paid hosting enough to pay them ?
x10's paid hosting is top notch, a good example is how often do you see the forums go down ?

hey dude, Corey has always said this and I quote:

Corey said:
If you don't like it, LEAVE!

Corey puts his time and money into this hosting company and he is sick of people who doesn't appreciate his hardwork!

Incidentally, you're on Cossacks, which has had 94.3691% uptime, not 50%.

How am I supposed to know that before I joined there was a better uptime to downtime ratio? And how can you tell potential customers that? I signed up because I needed quality hosting at that time and that was what was advertised. Another main point that pushed me away was the backlash that you get when pointing out there is something wrong. The reason why so many users here are pointing out that services are down is because they want to make sure it is brought to your attention as soon as possible (and to confirm the scope of the problems) so quick (and precise) action could be taken (not to constantly nag someone while they are trying to fix a problem, as we are reprimanded for doing).

Also, why is Corey the only person working on these problems (is there someone else?). If there are so many problems, shouldn't more resources be allocated to fixing them?

Sure! You pay for the staff costs and we'll get your uptime better, how's that? Or you can find someone who's willing to work long, tedious hours like Corey is doing in order to satiate a bunch of ungrateful user's uptime needs for free.

Also, as corey said, if you don't like it, leave.
You are welcome to leave, you know.

Think of it this way, it can only get better. :)

Three words,

Perfection takes time

oh and another 4 words

Patience is a virtue

I've been with alot of other hosts, yea it's annoying when servers go down but I've never seen another host act upon it and get to fixing it so quick. You won't find a better free host, and if you do it won't be long before their standards start to slip and you're back to looking for another host.

I think you are missing the point: All free service users are not just leechers and naggers. We can also be potential customers that will pay for better service, but only if we like what we see. The fact of the matter here is, you need to show potential customers that your services are worth their money and your free service should be a taste of how paid service may be like - it should not be "leftovers".

I am definitely grateful for Corey putting his effort into correcting these problems, please do not speak for me on that, but it's obvious that Corey needs help. If it is not feasible to allocate more resources, then there should be some sort of action around that (e.g. limiting the amount of new free users for the sake of keeping decent performance, or making it easier for free users to switch to pay, etc.).

AZOVGY:
Indeed. I'm sorry I joined at the worst time.

Another way of judging the quality of the paid service would be to look out and see how many VIP members you see on the forums!

How do we show customers that the service is worth the money? WHAT MONEY? Free is Free. If you are coming here for a free host, we are giving you what you asked for. A free host. But so far, I have yet to hear you say you did ANY research before sitting here to complain about the lack of this and that. Corey and the Admin ( and some well qualified staff ) have posted numerous helpful threads, updates, announcements. In Corey's newsletters, he's stated time and again about the issues with the servers, the changes due to poor datacenters ( hey, we can't all have the best - can we ) and the downtime. He hates it more than anyone. Forking out thousands of dollars to find out things don't work right.

It is easy for free users to switch to paid. When did someone say it was hard? Goto the paid services page, fill out the information ... how much more easy would you like it?

This is certainly not the worst time. Go about 6-8 months back, when there was just two servers - Free and Paid. None of this ad-free / ad-enhanced, etc. Just 2 simple servers. But like any business, it expanded ... to please everyone - x10 expanded. Its during that expansion that there was growing pains.

I'm sorry if my post came off as ungrateful. I haven't been here long and I don't have alot of time to sit around looking through the forums for information. Any emails sent out I didn't get so I couldn't have known.

All I see is since I joined about a month ago my site is down atleast 50% of the time. right now... Guess what its down. no suprise really its like this everyday. I thought I would point that out.

Its not like my site is super important or anything its just a hobby. So it honestly doesen't bother me that much, I was just curious as to why its down so much.

Sorry if I offended anyone... :eek4:
