I have the trial version of sp3, there isn't any real noticeable difference between sp2 and sp3. To me, sp3 is all hype.

Really? Vista runs much better then XP did on both my machines.

I'm running an OEM Vista Home Premium and OEM Ultimate, both 32 bit (Fresh OEM copies, not Dell or HP crap).

A bit offtopic but I have a few questions about windows.

I stopped using windows very shortly after sp2 was released (I was in the sp2 beta). I currently run ArchLinux. I might have to use windows soon for work.

What exactly are the minimum requirements for running Vista?
I have a AMD 2300+ sempron with 1GB ram and a nvidia 7300 GT AGP card.

Vista is slow? What's Windows XP? :D

Here's a little hint, I heard that Vista's sweet spot is 4GBs of RAM.

I have 2 GB RAM and I'm still using the basic version. I don't want to get the Ultimate version because I tried it out and the Aero didn't work. It turns out that I need an exceptional graphics card as well! =0 So I am now using Basic.

I'm interested to see if SP3 really does make that much difference. XP is so slow for booting anyways. My Ubuntu 7.04 boots fully in 20 seconds. :thefinger

That's not really xp more to do with how much stuff you got loading on start up. Mine boots up in 10-20 seconds flat

It does suck they will drop XP next year.... But I feel the same. My brother got Vista and he was complaining about it consitantly. I think ill stick to xp for a long time. Its not like I need the upgrade anyway. :p

I guess I am one of the only few who half way like vista, it does have its downs, but its... ok... for a Microsoft product.

Actually, Vista's OK. Sure, it might have some quirks here and there, but it's not really a failure in my opinion. One of the biggest misconceptions is that Vista uses a LOT of RAM. In truth, it does, but it only uses 100mB more than XP. The other RAM that appears to be used is actually just used to cache frequently used programs. This is a feature they put so that frequently used programs will be much faster to load. Of course, this method also has its down side. Not all users will benefit from the caching, and some might even find it inefficient depending on their usage.

I have one problem with Vista. The stupid thing installs badly half the time! I installed this time and lo and behold...Windows Update is not able to connect to the internet! =0 I have to reinstall someday that I'm not too lazy. But it's annoying as hell. Sometimes, I boot my computer a week after installation and it says "no operating system". Then I have to use the recovery CDs for XP which take like 5 hours to work. THAT is annoying about Vista.

I have vista and it installs no problem and runs fine now :)
Admitedly there was little support for drivers when it first came out but things are changing fast.
The first time i installed vista i had to use xp drivers for a lot of stuff and although they worked they were a little buggy which i expected but now i install vista and i dont need to hunt for vista drivers for my graphics card or other hardware.

i have vista in a new pc and it runs perfect even when gaming its better than XP by far as my opinion

SPECS

proccessor : AMD 64 X2 6GHz Dual Core
RAM : 4 GIG
Hard Drive : 2 x 500 GIG
Graphics Card : Nvidia 8800 Super+1GB GT
OS : Windows Vista Ultimate
CD/DVD Drive : Lightscribe 32x DVD/CD-RW
6 Fans and a 30 cm case fan lol xD it runs so silent even with all the fans
also 2 fans on the graphics card

So i say vista is worj a try to those with computers that can take it, most applications are being updated to a vista compatable version.

Also i am amazed at how big a difference between DirectX 9b and DirectX 10a
there is huge noticable difference (especcially with 1GIG graphics) and watching HD movies off a blu-ray disk is superb and games are so much more fun

Thought i would Post again xD

Thanks, Tiger

As far as everything I can think of, Vista is better than XP. The only thing is that Vista is new and XP is old/finished. When Vista is done, it will be the best.

I'm sure that the only reason that I am having problems with Vista's Windows Update is because I did not use an...*cough*....official DVD. >.> As far as I've seen, Vista is flawless as long as you do everything the right way.

On the contrary, Vista will never be the best. See the article on Cnet that talks about the benchmark tests that proved XP was 50-100% faster, and that service pack 3 will make XP perform faster by an additional 10%!
