Wordpress: cannot save product variations in woocommerce

While using Woocommerce on my Wordpress store, i an unable to save changes to the variations. I just get the dreaded endless spinning wheel

I'm also having this same exact problem. The link referenced did walk me through steps to discover the browser is encountering an error.

load-scripts.php?c=0&load[]=jquery-core,jquery-migrate,utils,jquery-ui-core,jquery-ui-widget,jquery-ui-mouse,jquery-ui-sortable,underscore,backbone,wp-util,&load[]=wp-backbone,media-models,moxiejs,plupload&ver=4.9.8:4 POST http://<mysubdomain>.x10host.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php 404 (Not Found)

I also have no index.html file in the WordPress root directory as the help link above suggested might be the case when receiving an HTML response instead of JSON.

Anyone figure this out yet?
