yes i chose something stupid like 'chris' as a username for hosting?

the server came back with well you'll have to signup again and change it,

my e-mail is now already in use because of the previous signup

hey calm down chris,

An admin will be along soon and he can remove the email that you inputted out of the database, then you can sign up again,

There is something at the top to show what step you are in in the sign up process. After it tells you that your email is unavailable just click on the next step at the top. You'll be able to complete the sign up with no problems this way.
