Please try the installation manually by downloading the package from http://wordpress.org/latest.zip
Upload it, unzip it and navigate to its index.php.
Follow wizard. Done.

How did you try to install it?

That would be softaculous/fantastico. They're the ones that throw the INFO.XML error.
