When you sign into Fantastico click Remove SMF. Its on the first thing, it says Installed then will say SMF. It will tell you it hasnt removed proberly since you have manually removed it, but it should let you install another script nevertheless.

Delete everything from the public_html folder. (File Manager) Then delete the database from the MySQL section. You should also consider using another bulletin board. SMF is too messy. Especially for people who like something simple. Try MyBB or PhpBB3.

Did you install it on the root dir? If you are getting a blank screen you need to upgrade your PHP version. I had to ask an admin to patch mine for me. SMF is a disaster if you ask me. You should consider MyBB.
