    How fast is your internet?

    Internet Explorer Vs. Firefox

I use Firefox 3, simply because it doesn't have ActiveX, it has a lot of useful add-ons, data is easier to backup, it's interoperable between different OSes, it's faster and the interface is a bit simpler (Bookmarks, for example, but maybe that's because I pretty much always used Netscape over...

    New Computer

Microsoft keeps extending XP's support period, it's now set to 2014 I think. They're supposed to release Windows 7 in a year or two, so better stick to XP for now... I don't believe Vista will last 10 years. XP is a special case, it was the longest lasting Windows release as nothing was...

    Firefox 3.01 ---IE killer's ctrl+tab extension

I can live with Ctrl-PgUp & Ctrl-PgDn :D By the way, there's an "Alt-Tab" add-on for Windows XP that's available, just look in the Microsoft PowerToys website. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx (Tons of nice stuff, there's even a multi-desktop add-on -> the...

    WHich is the best Antivirus

I changed my opinion : Avira AntiVir free edition (very good detection and extremely light weight) There are two annoying things that get a lot of people to switch to another anti-virus : 1. Popup ads trying to get you to pay for an ad-free AntiVir. 2. Auto-update is slow and shows up a...

    Email problems

In XP it just removes the shortcuts, same as if you'd remove Internet Explorer or Windows Media Player. I just found that in the Tools section of the Dial-a-fix utility, there's an option to reinstall Outlook Express.

    Windows VS. Mac

Still, that depends of the distributon. If you look at ubuntu for example, installing any applications available in the repositories is simpler than installing a program on OS X (very unintuitive) and Windows. There's not many things coming with Windows. If you want a bit of compatibility, you...

    Upgrade PC Processor?

The compatibility lists are often ooutdated, both on the mfg's website and in the manual. You can look at the BIOS change logs and even the chipset sometimes. You can find mainboard hardware hacks sometimes... (ie. I have a dual-CPU 1.3GHz Pentium 3 system --> 440BX chipset !)

    Dreamweave is it the cost?

Dreamweaver is a page editor, and Joomla is installed on your website. You go in Joomla to add or edit content, links, "modules", etc. The layout is pre-built, altough you can change it. In Dreamweaver, you have to write all this. Still, I prefer NotePad.

What kinds of USB memory stick are suitable for use as Vista memory

It just makes access times to virtual ram faster. It would only be useful on a laptop with a slow 1.8" drive maybe. Anyways, with the price of DDR2, it's NOT worth it.

    Windows VS. Mac

Where did you read this? Every single benchmarks I found that weren't Apple's own, found that Photoshop, etc. ran faster on Windows, it was even faster on Windows using an Intel Mac. Apple gets their hardware buitl in Taiwan by Asus and Foxconn, normal hardware makers. You've got a serious...

What kinds of USB memory stick are suitable for use as Vista memory

You'd need a fast USB key to make a difference, but even there, I've read reviews and benchmarks about the ReadyBoost feature, and it didn't change anything to Windows' performance.

    system restore in xp

System Restore will bring back a modified registry to it's previously saved state and do the same for modified Windows files. You won't lose the installed software files, but maybe the registry keys.

    Windows VS. Mac

I don't understand this point. The same apps exist on both OSes, and the Windows versions often have the extra ability to use GPGPU computation, 3D rendering, video encoders/decoders, etc. It was better when you has MacOS on one side, and DOS on the other, but now, not sure there's a difference.

    Windows VS. Mac

In fact, the only thing really different with MacOS is that it comes bundled with software out of the box, while Microsoft gets sued for every apps bundled with Windows (Internet Explorer, etc.) The Apple advertising campaign is only true for persons who can't install something.

    Windows VS. Mac

Since Macs have the Mighty Mouse (a few years already), you can right click and middle click from stock. MacOS being better for graphics and media is a myth. All the professional software runs on both OSes, and actually runs faster on Windows, you can install XP on your Intel Mac and see ;-)...

    Building a New PC

You should have waited a week or so, you can now get ATI's Radeon 4800 cards. They beat a few more expensive nVidia 9000-series cards. PS. An Athlon X2 4400 was "the thing" in 2005-2006. It's still good for many things, but lacking behind the Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad and AMD Phenom X3 and X4...

    I'm having a new HDD

Hi, Maxtor is Seagate's budget brand now, not really worth looking at. If you want performance without spending for a WD VelociRaptor, Seagate's 7200.11 series and Hitachi's 7K1000 series are worth looking at. The smallest drive is 500GB. Western Digital's Caviar SE drive are very quiet and...

    Email problems

I don't think you can reinstall Outlook Express, it's embedded in Windows. The mail server settings might be the problem. Thunderbird can import the mail server and contacts from Outlook Express when you install it, might be worth a shot, just to see if it works.

    Overscan on lcd

Hi, you could check the VGA cable to see if there's a problem. You could try to reset the screen settings too.
