yes, that fixed it thanks, i guess it was trying to send it to ".php" instead of recognising the need for the index. To maintain the rewrite rule in the root, i added "RewriteEngine off" to the .htaccess in the subdomain, issue is now resolved, yay and thanks.

I set up a subdomain, and got it a .co.cc address ( http://epsomandewellrevisited.co.cc ) however when visit it, i get a 404 as it apparently cant find it's index.php page, however if i type the adress for the file http://epsomandewellrevisited.co.cc/index.php it loads fine. TIA
