It can take up to 72 hours for a change to process, or for an account to be activated. The time is increased at the moment, as there was a server outage a few days ago which slowed down the processing of the queue.

Quite a few users are complaining about current signup queues. Because of a server outage a few days ago, some of the account queues are backed up pretty badly. You're just going to have to wait it out for the time being. :)
