It's not a gzip file; it's a .xml file. You have to use a program to create a gzip, using the xml file as input. It's like creating a .zip file. Renaming file.xml to file.gz doesn't work and it looks corrupt because it's not a real gzip file, it's just a renamed file. Look for Peazip or 7zip...
