An 86-year-old woman has pleaded guilty after being charged with shoplifting $252 worth of products from a grocery store, resulting in her 61st arrest on August 2, 2009.

The original charge was for felony shoplifting, but was reduced to a misdemeanor after she pleaded guilty. She was sentenced to two days in jail.

Doesn't anyone think it's time to put this woman on house arrest, or make her spend more time in jail? I understand that people are being lenient because she's elderly, but being arrested 61 times is insane. o_O

The Law should chop off her hands. Then let's see her try to shoplift. Obviously, the alternative of life imprisonment isn't gonna be that much of a deterrent.

but she's 89 years old.... maybe this is the only thing she has left for kicks... everybody should go very easy on her and let her have her fun.... after all she could kick the bucket any day....

So you're saying that just because she's old, the law doesn't apply to her?

This should definitely NOT be the case. A 94-year-old woman hit my mom's parked car and fled the scene, and the police appeared to be hesitant to do anything with the hit-and-run woman after we caught her because she was old.

I hope that was just a "joke".

I'm not going to judge the woman - I'll leave that for the courts to decide. They have the full facts that we don't.

How do I know that she doesn't, for example, suffer from Alzheimer's/ Senile Dementia?

lol Of course it was a joke. The United States law would never do that, that's human body mutilation and is probably a felony.

And if she suffers from Alzheimer's, I'm sure there would've been some action taken to stop her from repeating these tasks, such as house arrest as I mentioned before.

You forgot to mention that one of the items the 86 year old stole was wrinkle cream!

Ah, how sweet! :)

Maybe she has alzheimers, maybe she's a calculated criminal. Is this a risk that we're willing to take? Today, anti-wrinkle cream. Tomorrow? A 60" plasma television.

btw, of course I was joking. However, the woman's age is totally irrelevant. If she has alzheimers, she requires treatment, and if it presents a danger to herself and/or others, she requires round-the-clock monitoring, maybe even needing to be admitted to a specialist unit.

She's gonna get off easy, just like the celebs who go to jail. They're more of a hazard in prison than out.

Double standards (on how they appear to be applied in criminal law) are good - as long as you are the one receiving the more favorable treatment.

Hows this...

In a country in europe, there was a group of guys that got busted after their 3rd jewelery robbery?...well in this country they don't tolerate ANYTHING...so they get sentenced to 40 years in jail... They were all around the ages of 40....

Well...5 of the 6 guys, died naturally in jail...the sixth guy ...now 82 the one that lived...2 years after being released...called the cops... ??

He was on top of a jewelry store at 1 AM in the morning, with bank robbery clothes on...it was raining...the guy dropped his rope off the side of the building, once reaching the top...

the top of the roof, was steeply pitched...it was made of a form of metal...it was raining...it was slippery...the guy couldn't get down, nor could he get into the jewelry store...lucky one of the few things he did not drop on the roof was his cell phone..which was one of the few things that were taped to his right leg...along with a knife, his wallet and toothpaste with a toothbrush...????

Well he called the cops...it took the police/fire department to get him down 3 hours. : )

I love stories like this. Anyone want to know the name of the guy??? I won't say...but wow, I didn't think my neighbor when I was 5, ...(named "bob") would do this sort of thing EVER.

It's funny hehe.
