so I want to use my x10 hosting account to host myself a ddns redirect, but I don't know how to do it. I have my IP, I am pretty sure it's static but I don't want people to type in my IP... I've tried ddns.net but I forgot to reactivate and they killed my domain, but now if I try to get it back it says it already exists so... Bla. I want to use a subdomain named comp or something, to redirect to my computer's IP address. i have configured it in the router so my internal IP stays the same and I can forward ports, so now I just need to redirect that domain. DO I use dns records or something else.

Hi,

If your home connection has a static IP address (and never changes), you can set up a DNS record for this. From cPanel, you can go to the Advanced DNS Editor, and create a new record. "Name" is the subdomain you want to use, "Type" should be A, and "Address" is your IP address.

If your home connection has a dynamic IP address, unfortunately this is trickier, because the only way to change your domain's DNS records is to manually do it through cPanel.

Thank you,

thank you for the help. Just one more question. When adding the record, do I type, say, comp.test.x10.mx or would I just type comp

Hi,

You would type just "comp". ;)

Thank you,
